According to the Breast Cancer Foundation, breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women in Malaysia, with approximately 1 in 19 women in the country at risk of developing the disease. Regular breast cancer screening helps detect abnormalities early, when treatment is often less extensive and more effective. According to the American Cancer Society, when breast cancer is detected early and has not spread beyond the breast, the five-year relative survival rate is over 99%, highlighting the importance of early detection. Mammography is the gold standard for breast cancer screening and is generally recommended for women aged 40 years and above. A 3D mammogram with tomosynthesis captures multiple layered images of the breast, providing clearer and more detailed views that can help detect abnormalities, particularly in women with dense breast tissue. Breast ultrasound complements mammography by providing additional assessment of breast findings. It is commonly used to evaluate breast symptoms, further assess abnormalities detected on mammograms, or as an imaging option for younger women, depending on individual risk factors and clinical assessment.
